Nvidia and Cisco expand collaboration, make it easier for companies to deploy AI
Nvidia and Cisco have announced an expansion of their collaboration to make it easier for businesses to deploy artificial intelligence (AI). Nvidia $NVDA, a leading AI chipmaker, is offering Spectrum-X Ethernet network extensions for its server solutions. These devices will now include chips from Cisco $CSCO to provide better connectivity and broader functionality within enterprise networks.
"Enterprises are under tremendous pressure to deploy AI quickly and efficiently, but many leaders are struggling with how to balance investment and risk," said Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins. "Together with Nvidia, we're removing the barriers and helping customers optimize their infrastructure investments to realize the full potential of AI."
Until now, AI data center development has been dominated by a limited number of large companies, so-called hyperscalers, such as Microsoft and Amazon. These companies have large technical teams that can afford to design and deploy their own AI infrastructure. However, Nvidia is keen to extend the technology into the wider business environment, which is why it partnered with Cisco a year ago to reach out to enterprises and government agencies.
For Cisco, which has so far struggled to penetrate hyperscaler data centers, the collaboration with Nvidia means a chance to get a bigger share of the AI spend. Nvidia's networking solutions will now include Cisco's Silicon One chips, helping them compete with established products from Broadcom.
