Three tech giants are teaming up for an ambitious project that is set to fundamentally change the future of artificial intelligence and its infrastructure in the United States. OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle have announced the creation of a new company called Stargate, which is set to be a key player in the global race for AI dominance. The project, in which up to $500 billion is planned to be invested, will create thousands of new jobs and give the US a strategic advantage over competitors, especially China.

On Tuesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Oracle $ORCLChairman Larry Ellison, along with President Donald Trump, met at the White House to officially announce the formation of Stargate. Trump called the project "the largest AI infrastructure project in history."

The initial investment of $100 billion is expected to be just the beginning. The plan is for Stargate to reach a budget of up to $500 billion over the next few years. The first million-square-foot data center is already under construction in Texas, demonstrating the project's fast start.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stressed the importance of this initiative: "Artificial intelligence requires a huge infrastructure - from data centers to computer chips to power and water resources. This project is key to maintaining US technological and economic dominance."

Oracle, one of the largest data centre operators in the US, and SoftBank, known for its massive investment in technology, will play a vital role in the implementation of Stargate. SoftBank will be in charge of financing the project, while OpenAI will assume operational responsibilities. A fourth company, MGX, has also joined the project and will contribute additional investment.

According to Trump, Stargate has the potential to create more than 100,000 jobs in the United States and support the re-industrialisation of the US economy. "This project will ensure that the United States is a leader in artificial intelligence while protecting our national security," the president said.

Project Stargate is also of strategic importance in the context of geopolitical competition with China. Sam Altman has previously warned that if the US does not invest in developing AI infrastructure, it could lose technological leadership to China. According to last week's OpenAI white paper, there is approximately $175 billion ready for investment in AI projects worldwide. "If these funds do not go to the U.S., they will end up in Chinese-backed projects, which will strengthen the global influence of the Chinese Communist Party," the document reads.

Trump also rescinded his predecessor Joe Biden's executive order from 2023, which aimed to regulate and monitor risks associated with AI. Trump argued that over-regulation could hinder progress in AI and limit investment.

Despite skeptical voices that recall failed projects like the Foxconn factory in Wisconsin, Stargate officials believe the project has all the ingredients for success. As Larry Ellison said: "Stargate will bring enormous economic benefits not only to the United States but to the world."

Stargate is not just another technology project, but a symbol of the U.S. determination to stay on the cutting edge of technological progress and shape the future of artificial intelligence.
